Knife Rights Testifies at Texas Senate Homeland Security Committee Hearing – Looking Toward 2015

Knife Rights Testifies at Texas Senate Homeland Security Committee Hearing
Looking Toward 2015 Session

Knife Rights Director of Legislative Affairs, Todd Rathner, testified on Monday at a hearing before the Texas Senate Committee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs & Homeland Security. The Committee was charged by Lt. Governor David Dewhurst to “study and make recommendations on removing barriers to Second Amendment Rights…”

Last year Knife Rights succeeded in repealing the ban on switchblade (automatic) knives in Texas, but the legislature failed to pass Knife Law Preemption. Knife Rights intends to submit a comprehensive Knife Law Reform Bill in the 2015 session (the Texas legislature meets every other year) that includes Knife Law Preemption and repeals all remaining restrictions on knives in Texas statutes.

Testimony at this hearing laid the groundwork for the 2015 legislative effort. Knife Rights submitted a letter to the committee outlining the issues and explaining why Knife Law Preemption and repeal of existing knife restrictions should be a priority in 2015. You can read this letter here.

Knife Rights welcomed the supporting testimony provided by by Scott Lewis.
